You mean other poeple make things too?

Hurray, I joined up with the Winnipeg Etsy Street Team- a group of local artists/crafters/etsians who band together for promoting, discussion, and networking the crafting circuit in winnipeg.
I'm excited to meet some fellow artisans!

Also on another note, I made an exciting tree drawing today, but it's not finished yet, so I'm not posting anything yet. Also I decided to glue felt onto paper yesterday, and I'm pretty happy with the results, I think I'll continue trying out some strange combinations. The tree seen above I finished yesterday. I wasn't totally sure about the felt, it felt a little out of place, but it's for keeps, so hopefully I used my best judgement.

Back Pain

I hurt my back this week. I was in pain like I'd never experienced before, immobilized, and very helpless. Thankfully only a few days later I am nearly back to normal, no longer need tylenol 3s, and the back pain is only manifesting itself in the form of this drawing (except for a few minor reminders if I sit for too long).

"What are you Waiting for?"

I like this guy, even though my family tells me he looks kind of creepy. But then I think a lot of my work ends up accidentally creepy. I bought some new inks, and I'm very excited to be putting them into practice. This is an ink and watercolour wash, but mainly the colour is ink. Then the ram figure and tree were drawn in inks and then glued on top. I'd like to write a story about the Ram figure, not sure what yet, but I'll be thinking about it.

"Reach"

Lately I've been thinking about goals. Life goals, artistic goals, talents, and where to use them. I've been asking myself what am I reaching for? When I try to define it I'm not even totally sure because I feel like there a lot of different paths that I could take, and many of them have potential. I've been thinking about chance and opportunity, and how God can bless us with opportunities but if we don't act of them, then we miss out on what He may have arranged for us, and ultimately part of what we're reaching for.

"So Would you like to go out Sometime?"

I always seem to go back to using birds in the images I make. There's just something about them that I enjoy and also I like the connotations that birds have, and how some of their attributes can cross-over to people's characteristics.
I haven't been great at maintaining posts, but my art production has slowed this month due to being out of town a few times.

"No, I don't think so."

I drew this piece today as well, and I have become very fond of the character on the right. I find that I struggle with backgrounds, in part because the background is less significant to me than the dialogue between antagonists, even if it can add to it.

"Discrimination is a big issue for Suzie, most people can't look past the hammer."

I drew this with an ink pen on paper today. Sometimes these images come out of me, and I'm not sure why until after when I think about it, and then I can in some way relate it back to things that I've observed or been reading. A good friend just gave me a book by Edward Gorey and I was reading through it last night before I went to bed. I'd say to some extent he influenced my drawing today (that and I just bought a new ink pen.) I love Edward Gorey's work, and find him inspiring and delightful because he almost exclusively produces pen and ink drawings. He's made his mark with ink drawings that are typically smaller than a normal 8.5 by 11 page, which I find impressive. Also most of his work is so wonderfully original and contains such engaging tongue-in-cheek bits that it is very enjoyable. For anyone who likes ink drawings with odd characters, and humorous captions that border on the dark side, then check out Gorey.
