A Peek at My Sketchbook

This one is part collage, part marker, part ink, and part fun.

This one is a quote by the French writer Voltaire.

I bought a new sketchbook while in London, and feel much more drive to fill this sketchbook with ideas, and images. I suddenly have a different attitude towards sketchbooks which makes it really satisfying to fill blank pages with drawings. Here are a couple of recent drawings that were inspired or partially derived from an old book I bought at an MCC store on "the Age of Enlightenment."

Just a few drawings I did tonight. I just wanted to make something lighthearted.

Some New Drawings

Here are a few drawings I finished recently.
The horse disguise I can't say I really have an explanation for. It makes me laugh.
The two bird people were both drawn separately, and I placed them together in Photoshop, but I'm not sure if they really belong together. Perhaps without the meathead caption. The Meathead drawing was inspired by a couple of muscle-guys that must have been coming from the downtown Y when I was selling at portage place. One of them appropriately purchased a small post-card size print from me of the muslcedog drawing I did a few months back.

Against perhaps logic I posted the horse drawing on etsy, lets see if anyone wants it!

You mean this is my job?

Look what I finished making at work today! It is a bird person. My students were working on their sculptures, and over the past few weeks I was able to complete one myself. Usually I only have time for a half finished demo, and don't get to actually finish. BUT this time, there were enough spare moments of class time to finish this thing up. My favourite part is the backside.
What is it made of you ask? Well it is has a tinfoil frame, and is then coated in plaster bandages and plaster, sanded down, primed and then painted. It is a figure sculpture project that I came up with for my students, and it always seems to have a decent amount of creativity and life to their pieces (though they are not always proportionally accurate...). It was nice actually completing something in class instead of only marking or planning, or teaching. Class days with spare moments seem to be rare, and today's exception was due to a Tournament that had half my students away.
